Tire life gave Power the edge in Portland showdown

The battle between Team Penske and Chip Ganassi Racing continued at Portland International Raceway, with Team Penske's Josef Newgarden coming out on top in a battle of pit strategy and tire life.

Newgarden took the lead on lap 28 of the 110-lap race, passing Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon who started first but had opted two-stop strategy. Newgarden's three-stop strategy gave him the edge on tire life, by the end of the 21604-mile race.

Newgarden's win was his third of the season, putting him 13 points behind Dixon in the championship standings.

The race was also notable for the performance of rookie Pato O'Ward, who finished third to complete a Chevy podium sweep. This marked the first podium of his IndyCar career.

Race highlights:

  • Newgarden's win was his third of the season.
  • Dixon's second place finish keeps him in the championship lead.
  • O'Ward's third place finish was the first podium of his IndyCar career.
  • The race was decided on pit strategy and tire life.
