Major Magnitude 7.4 Tremor Off Eastern Coast

A catastrophic earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 has ravaged Taiwan's eastern coast, leaving at least nine people dead and over 800 injured, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Massive Destruction and Trapped Survivors

The quake, which struck early Wednesday morning, has caused widespread destruction, including collapsed buildings and damaged infrastructure. Rescuers are currently working tirelessly to extricate dozens of people trapped in highway tunnels following the powerful temblor.

More than 700 people are reported to be stranded in Taiwan's northern Hualien County, where the earthquake's epicenter was located.
